School officials select principal

School district officials selected Fred Perdomo, a 31-year Carson High School veteran and current vice principal, to serve as the new principal.

"We had three excellent candidates," said Superintendent Mary Pierczynski. "But of the three, we thought his experience would make him an excellent principal. We feel very comfortable with him."

Perdomo's name will be submitted to Carson City School Board members during the May 11 meeting for final approval.

Officials began searching for a new principal in January after Glen Adair announced plans to retire in June at the end of his 12th year.

A nationwide search turned up 12 applicants, which was narrowed to five.

Those five were interviewed Wednesday by a panel made up mostly of department heads at the high school.

Three finalists were chosen: Eagle Valley Middle School Principal Ferd Mariani, retired Texas administrator Nancy Evans and Perdomo.

They went through a second round of interviews Thursday with district officials.

Perdomo was selected as Nevada's vice principal of the year for 2003.

He has worked at Carson High School for more than 30 years, the last three as vice principal. He spent nine years as a world history teacher, 11 as a special-education teacher and nine as dean of students.
