GARDNERVILLE - A 12-year-old Carson Valley girl was reported struck by lighting Thursday, after a series of thunderstorms hit the region creating two small fires in the Pine Nut Mountains, power outages and flooding.
East Fork Paramedics responded to the Hornet Drive home in Gardnerville where the girl was injured. The condition of the child is not known, said Douglas County Undersheriff Bob Rudnick.
Between two-tenths and three-tenths of an inch of rain fell late Thursday and the chance of late-afternoon thunderstorms is expected to increase through Saturday, said Brian O'Hara, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Two fires in the Pine Nut Mountains were reported as a result of lightning. Neither was a danger to homes or firefighters.
An unrelated power outage struck 2,100 customers for 20 minutes Thursday morning.
According to Gary Aldax of Sierra Nevada Power Co., the outage was traced to an arcing switch on a power line running along Curry Street in Carson City damaged in the Waterfall fire.
The switch set a pole on fire causing the power outage at 9:45 a.m. Power was restored at 10:04 a.m. After the outage, the traffic signal at Gilman Avenue and Highway 395 in Gardnerville failed for much of the day.
Elsewhere, flooding hit the region with the rain. The water collected in streets and drainages through the Gardnerville Ranchos on Blue Rock Road, Cardinal Drive and Tillman Lane.
