Chad and Judi Olson love the freedom of riding on the open road and seeing new places.

One of those places was Carson City. And they liked it so much they decided to stay and open a business.

Adventure MotoStuff, 3331 Highway 50 E., opened in mid-October for off-roading and motorcycling enthusiasts. It sells apparel and accessories for motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles.

Street- and dirt-bike helmets line one wall, along with goggles and boots. Owner Chad Olson pointed to them and described the uses for each boot. Some boots are specifically for road racing and have a high level of protection. Others are for touring on long trips or off-roading.

The couple moved to Dayton from the Bay area.

"We were looking for a good location to own our own business, and Nevada is very small-business friendly," he said.

In California, they managed a motor sports store. Olson said he has invested about $60,000 in the business. They hope to make about $350,000 in sales the first year.

They also relocated to Nevada because of all the great places to ride. Olson, a rider for 15 years, said his top two favorite places to ride are in the Pine Nut Mountains and to Markleeville, Calif.

"Motorcycling is kind of Chad's passion, and they say to succeed in life, follow your passion," said Judi Olson.

She'd like to be able to own their own space and hire employees. Judi Olson has been riding for about three years. She has a Kawasaki EX500, and he owns a Suzuki V-Strom 650 and DR350 and a Kawasaki 2XGR.
