RENO - Two teenagers were killed in a head-on crash south of Reno Monday that blocked afternoon rush hour traffic on Highway 395 for more than five hours.
The wreck killed driver Nicholas Parker of Stead and his passenger, Jamie Fleischmann of Reno, both 17.
The Nevada Highway Patrol said the southbound sedan driven by Parker crossed the median just south of the Mount Rose Highway about 3:55 p.m. and hit the side of a northbound sedan driven by Warren Skidmore. Warren, 40, and Sarah Skidmore, 27, of Reno were taken to Washoe Medical Center, treated, and released.
A northbound pickup, driven by Jimmy Spradling, 71, of Reno then hit the teens' vehicle head-on, sending Spradling to St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
Both northbound lanes and one southbound lane were closed until just after 9 p.m. Traffic was backed up more than three miles in both directions. Northbound traffic and was routed around the accident scene on Rhodes Lane.
