Soroptimist International is sponsoring a "Girl's Night Out: A Night at the Oscars, Soroptimist Style" Feb. 29 at the Piñon Plaza. If you have not had a chance in a long while to dress up and chat with your girlfriends, this is where you want to be.

Bring your best friends, sisters, mothers, daughters and female co-workers to step into stilettos, grab the furs, and enjoy the awards night. Come dressed as your favorite move star or in your finest Oscar clothes. If men dare to attend, they will have to pay extra or serve the complimentary champagne. Get your tickets early.

Recycle your office equipment or supplies you no longer use at Carson City School District's Educators Closet. Kristi Pulizzotto would love to reuse, reduce, and recycle your donations. This program helps teachers and students in Carson City, Lyon and Douglas counties offset the cost of buying needed material for the classroom.

Teachers can come to the Educators Closet and shop for free. Decorations for classroom bulletin boards, books and fun items for student projects are available. So if your company has too many staplers or computers, donate them for a tax write-off.

Coming up in March,Court Appointed Special Advocates will sponsor a three-day seminar on "Fetal Alcohol and Drug Effects" by renowned specialist Dr. Susan Doctor.

The seminar will directly involve service providers and caregivers who deal with individuals exposed to alcohol/drugs.Topics include how to deal and understand the intricacies of addiction, the possible effects of prenatal alcohol/drug exposure, and the means of developing an appropriate intervention plan.

The seminar is accredited for 16.5 Social Work CEU credits, 16.5 MFT CEU credits or 16.5 BADA CEU credits.
