A five-mile stretch of Highway 50 east of Dayton is closed following zero visibility from high winds and sand that possibly caused three separate accidents.
Boyer Lane to Stagecoach was closed about 11:30 a.m. following the minor injury accidents this morning.
As of 3 p.m., the roadway remained closed.
"The blowing gusts created zero visibility, contributing to the accidents and causing the closure," said Trooper Chuck Allen. "We'll reopen when the weather clears."
According to the National Weather Service, a high wind warning is in effect until 10 p.m. this evening.
Strong south to southwest winds of 25 to 45 mph with gusts around 60 mph will occur over western Nevada through this evening in wind prone areas and canyons. Gusts of 70 mph or greater are likely.
