Coming soon: Handsome, smiling men serving complimentary champagne in tuxedos. This alone is worth the price of admission to Sunday's Soroptimist International girls' night out "A Night at the Oscars Soroptimist Style." If you have not had a chance recently to dress up and just chat, bring your best friends, sisters, mothers, daughters and female co-workers. Get your tickets early.
Celebrate the 25th concert season of the Capital City Community Band at a concert. Joining the band will be two elementary school choirs, the Seeliger Singers and the Fremont Honor Choir. Mary Law and Sandra Irvin said, "These students will not only entertain you but also surprise you with their vocal talents." Former school district music directors Carol and Richard Doede will provide the free concert. Students come early to school all year to practice.
Thank you to the nice lady who called to find out where she could drop off books. Last week, I did mention SBC Telecom Pioneers of Northern Nevada's annual book drive. This is an easy way to clean out your children's books for needy children. The books also help after-school reading programs, so look below for book drop-off points.
If you enjoy dance, ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz and other dance styles, see the free annual Spotlight Dance Cup. The national dance corporation checks out local talent throughout the United States. Carson's event will highlight local talent including that of Samantha Boykin, Milan Delvecchio and Emma Jaquette, who performed last year and said the event is amazing. Novice, petite, junior, senior and adults competed last year. Local girls who won awards from Western Nevada Performing Arts were Katie Laura, Alyssa Cord, Ali Williams, Erica Cask and Danielle Williams. Check out the Web site listed below to see more on the event scheduling.
