A memorial Mass for Gretchen C. Whitehead, 95, a Yerington resident, will be said at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 5650 Vista Boulevard, in Sparks.
Mrs. Whitehead died Feb. 22, 2004, at her home. She was born Feb. 14, 1909, in Minden, to Joseph and Bertha Dangberg Cardinal.
She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1930, with a degree in education.
She lived in Sparks for more than 40 years and spent the last two years in Wellington and Yerington.
She married Edwin T. Whitehead on the Virginia Ranch in Gardnerville in 1931.
Mrs. Whitehead worked for the Washoe County School District from 1943-1970. She was a member of the Washoe County Teachers Association, Tri-Delta Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, daughter JoAnn West and granddaughter Rhonda McDonald.
Among her survivors are three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Smith Valley High School, Vocational/Agriculture Program, Smith, NV 89430.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
