Elks Hoops Contest winners named

Forty-two boys and girls competed in the Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge's annual Hoop Shoot on Saturday at Carson Valley Middle School.

Winners were: Boys - Brett Anderson, ages 12-13; Gino Parisi, 10-11; Kyle Voga, 8-9. Girls - Chelsie Russell, 12-13; Jaimie Lorntzen, 10-11; Jordan Chappell, 8-9.

The winners qualified to the district finals to be held on Jan. 31 at Dilworth Middle School in Sparks. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the competition to start at 9. District champions will advance to the state finals to be held on Feb. 21 in Hawthorne.

The Western Regionals will be held on March 13 in Las Vegas. The Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals will be held April 22-25 in Springfield, Mass. National champions will be honored by the International Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield.
