There will be no classes Thursday for students and professors at Western Nevada Community College.
"We will remain closed so as not to interfere with emergency crews," said Anne Hansen, spokeswoman for the college. The WNCC Fallon and Douglas campuses will remain open.
Summer school classes at Carson High School have also been canceled.
The college's Cedar Building had a near miss, but came away uninjured after some "really great work on the part of the fire crews," Hansen said.
The Cedar Building houses the college's computer labs and nursing programs.
The community college, at 2201 W. College Parkway, was evacuated at 2 p.m. today as the Waterfall fire raced to the edge of the Cedar Building.
