YERINGTON - A woman charged in the Friday morning shooting death of her husband is being held without bail in the Lyon County Jail, authorities said Wednesday.

Stephanie Dawn Rotchy, 24, is charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon for the death of her 32-year-old husband, Matthew Rotchy.

According to District Attorney Leon Aberasturi, police found Stephanie Rotchy kneeling beside her husband's body in the couple's Yerington home on South Nevada Street about 1:30 a.m.

"The male subject had a towel across his chest and the female had blood on her," Aberasturi said. Matthew Rotchy was dead when police arrived. A handgun magazine of unknown caliber was recovered near the body and the gun likely used in the shooting was found in a closet, he said.

Another man, believed to be Stephanie Rotchy's brother, was contacted by police outside the home, Aberasturi said.

According to the police report, investigators noted "high velocity blood spatter" on Stephanie Rotchy's shirt, which would be consistent with her being nearby when the fatal shot to her husband's chest was delivered, and found probable cause to arrest her.

She refused comment to police, Aberasturi said.

Police were called to the home after a caller reported someone at the address had been shot in the chest.

Stephanie Rotchy will appear in Mason Valley Justice Court in August.
