A warrant was issued for the man police believe helped an alleged killer flee the scene of a fatal Carson City shooting.
Steve Contreras, 19, is charged with felony accessory to murder for allegedly bringing suspected killer Maximiliano "Dagger" Cisneros a change of clothes following the early- morning shooting May 25 in which Juan Carlos Alegria, 23, was killed and Fidel Fuentes, 22, was injured.
Cisneros, 22, allegedly shot the men following a domestic dispute involving Fuentes and his estranged girlfriend, Katie Armstrong.
Alegria had accompanied Fuentes about midnight to Armstrong's West Eighth Street apartment when Fuentes spotted Cisneros inside. According to court documents, after Fuentes kicked in the door, Cisneros allegedly emerged and opened fire, hitting Alegria three times in the torso and Fuentes once in the leg.
Contreras was arrested about 11 a.m. when police went to his Long Street apartment in the search for Cisneros and allegedly found marijuana and paraphernalia. He bailed out six and a half hours later and has since disappeared, Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Bob White said.
"During the time of his arrest we suspected he had information as to the whereabouts of Cisneros, but we couldn't prove it," he said. "Through our continued investigation we determined our initial suspicions were correct."
White said its believed Contreras picked up Cisneros from a Bunch Way address following the shooting and knowing he had just shot two people, drove him to Reno to aid him in escaping. It was after his return from Reno that police arrested him on the marijuana charge, White said.
Investigators believe Contreras and Cisneros may have fled to the Southgate area of Los Angeles.
