A memorial service for Joseph Herman McCubbins, 88, of Reno will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the home of Charles and June McCubbins, 10241 Zuni Ridge Trail in Arrowcreek in Reno.
Mr. McCubbins died June 9, 2004, at Tahoe Pacific Hospital in Reno. He was born Nov. 2, 1915, in Gladbrook, Iowa, to Lawrence and Daisey Rowden McCubbins.
He married Leah Darlene Johnston in Tama, Iowa.
Mr. McCubbins worked at the original Maidrite with Don Taylor, until the McCubbins bought the Tip Top Sandwich Shop in Boone, Iowa, in 1945. They moved back to Marshalltown, Iowa, in 1959, and managed the Evans Hotel and the Tama Bowl bowling alley until moving to Palm Springs, Calif., in 1966, where they managed motels until 1970. They moved to Michigan until 1986 then to Carson City.
He was preceded in death by a sister and his wife in 1992.
Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and June of Reno; grandchildren C.J., Christopher and Kelly Pietz, all of Reno, and Casey McCubbins of Denver; eight grandchildren; and brother, Ray of Kenai, Alaska.
Burial will be in Marshalltown.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
