Wehan places 12th at Junior Olympics

Carson Valley's Bryce Wehan placed 12th in the slalom on Friday in the National J2 Junior Olympics alpine skiing event in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Another Carson Valley skier, Nick Cohee, took 29th in the slalom in the event that features some of the best 15-16-year-old skiers in the country. Wehan and Cohee are representing Kirkwood Ski Education Foundation.

Wehan finished his first run in 50.83 seconds and his second run in 51.64 for a time of 1:42.47. Cohee went 553.49 and 55.65 to finish in 1:49.04. Jonathan Hunter of McAfee, N.J. won in 1:38.67 (48.13, 50.54).

In the girls slalom, Sugar Bowl's Brandy Barna took second in 1:48.14. Courtney Hammond of Mercer Island, Wash. won in 1:46.87. The competition continued on Saturday with the boys giant slalom.
