A Carson City man remained in serious condition Friday after he tried to jump onto a truck in downtown Reno.

Richard Brumette, 37, lost his grip Thursday about 11:30 a.m. when he climbed aboard a slow-moving Sierra Meats refrigerator truck on East Fourth Street, said Reno traffic detective Kevin McMillin.

He said Brumette was walking east with a woman when, without warning, he raced into traffic and jumped onto the driver's side running board. When he fell, he went under the tires, which ran over his abdomen, McMillin said.

The driver will not be cited, but Brumette could be cited for jaywalking and riding illegally on a vehicle.

The woman told police Brumette was intoxicated at the time.
