The Carson High boys track teams had many impressive early season marks in a meet on Friday.
Carson competed with Reno High, McQueen, Manogue and Rite of Passage. Matt Moore won the 300-meter hurdles in 41.5 seconds and placed third in the 110 high hurdles in an solid time of 16.2 for Carson.
Also for the Senators, Tilor Smith continued to improve in the long jump, winning at 19 feet, 11 1/2 inches. Jeremy Gray took second in 19-10 1/4. Smith also ran 11.5 in the 100 while John Stewart ran 11.7.
In addition, John Christenson took second in the pole vault with a solid mark of 11-6 and Stephen Waicul was second in the discus at 135-9. Smith, Mike Horrigan, Tsuyoshi Curtis and Stewart took second in the 800 relay in 1:33.2 and Smith, Curtis, Stewart and Moore won the 1,600 relay in 3:32.
The girls 800 relay of Crista Dixon, Lindsay Ford, Amanda Benson and Sinead McSweeney took second in 1:52.6 and the 1,600 relay of Benson, Ford, McSweeney and Sandra McAlman took second in 4:21.
Carson coach Todd Ackerman said his relay teams should continue to become quicker with adjustments.
"I think we'll be pretty solid especially when it comes down to when it matters," Ackerman said.
Ashley Terry won the high jump with a solid mark of 5-0 and also performed well in the triple jump and long jump. Janine Stone took second in the 3,200, Benson ran 1:02.1 and McSweeney ran 102.7 in their first time in the 400 this season. Alex McAlman also threw well in the discus and shot put.
"For the most part I was pleased," Ackerman said. "All of the girls and all of our younger boys in the throws improved. The coaches are very pleased with where we're at right now."
Notes: Once again, Grandma Hatties will cater the Carson track program's fund-raising spaghetti dinner to be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the upstairs cafeteria. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for 10 and under, $15 for a family of four, $20 for five and $25 for six or more.
