Shirley Jean Metcalf, 69, a Gardnerville resident for the past two years and Douglas County resident for 11 years, died March 18, 2004, at her home. She was born April 20, 1934, in Pomona, Calif., to Lawrence and Francis Bergt Ross.
She graduated from Pomona High School.
Mrs. Metcalf worked at the House of Fabrics for seven years. She was a fabric artist and enjoyed quilting, doll making and sewing. She was a member of the Carson Valley Quilt Guild. She was a Protestant.
Among her survivors are her husband, Dean, of Gardnerville; daughter, Monica R. Shumate of Dana Point, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law Brett A. and Elnette Metcalf of Carson City; daughter and son-in-law Lisa L. and Mark Monberg of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; grandchildren Marti, Mark, Jenny, Dezurae, Tyler, Jessica and Adam; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Madison, Kenny and Allison and sister, Beverly Hoyos of Upland, Calif.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
