Steve Weissinger, who resigned from the Douglas County Commission after being convicted of stealing from his employer, has filed for office against James Baushke, the man who was appointed to replace him.

That is just one of many races taking place in Douglas and Lyon counties this year.

Even though both men are Republicans, the race will skip the primary and go straight to the general election in November.

The race for the seat being vacated by Douglas County commissioner Bernie Curtis features a primary with three Republicans, Joe Denton, Doug Johnson and former planning commissioner Valida A. McMichael.

In Lyon County, two Democrats, Howard Reid and Daniel Rice will vie to run against Republican Bob Milz for his District 1 seat.

In District 3, incumbent Republican David Fulstone will face former commissioner Nancy Dallas and James Stout in a primary race. Two Democrats will also participate in the primary for the seat, Steven Dalton and James Lovato Jr.

Storey County has a half dozen local races this year, but only two contested races - neither of which will see a primary. For commissioner in district 3, incumbent Bob Kershaw faces Ed Diedrich. For school board seat 1A Janna Seddon faces Esther Schouten. All are nonpartisan offices.
