May 15 was the opening day of the fishing season for Big Springs Reservoir and Knott Creek Reservoir, which are both located in northern Humboldt County.
Big Springs Reservoir will be open to fishing through the last day in February, any hour of the day or night. The limit is five trout.
Knott Creek Reservoir is open to "catch and release" fishing only, any hour of the day or night, from the second Saturday in May through the second Friday in June.
From the second Saturday in June through Nov. 15, the limit is one trout, minimum size of 18 inches.
Hours are any time of the day or night.
Only artificial lures with single barbless hooks may be used.
Boats must be operated at a speed that leaves a flat wake and in no case, exceeds five nautical miles per hour.
