Humbert N. Tavares, 86, a New Port Richey, Fla., resident for the past 10 years, died Nov. 4, 2004, at home. He was born in Warren, R.I., to Antonio M. and Maria Nuñes Tavares.
Before moving to Florida, he lived in Portsmouth, R.I., and Carson City.
Mr. Tavares served 20 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy and circled the world several times before retiring.
He was a member of the Carson City Eagles. He enjoyed woodcarving, especially images of American Indians.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Julianna Lewis, Mary Valesh, Alice Squillante and Gilda Spieker; brother, Antonio N. Tavares; and daughter, Alicia Keller.
Among his survivors are his wife, Rose Christoff Taveras; sons Michael of Georgia, Robert of New Port Richey and CD of Arizona; daughter, Rose Campbell of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A military funeral was held in Bushnell, Fla.
Faupel Funeral Home of Port Richey was in charge of arrangements.
