Carson woman heads independent club

PLEASANTON, Calif. - The Golden Baseball League announced today that Juliana Paoli, a Carson City Native, has been named General Manager of the league's charter team in San Diego.

"Juliana's knowledge in the business of sports and her enthusiasm brings a unique perspective to our league," said David Kaval, Co-Founder and CEO of the Golden Baseball League. "Her background in sports marketing combined with her passion for baseball makes her the perfect leader for the San Diego team."

Juliana joins the league with extensive experience in event production, management, marketing and public relations. Her credentials include coordinating special events for non profit groups such as Ronnie Lott's All Stars Helping Kids and the Stanford University based Positive Coaching Alliance's National Youth Sports Awards.

She also worked with several high level national corporations coordinating events with marquee major league teams including the New York Yankees, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Cubs, the Oakland A's, and the Seattle Mariners. Paoli also produced events with several NFL teams including the Denver Broncos and NBA teams including the Los Angeles Lakers as well as the PGA Championship. Locally in San Diego, Paoli worked with Trevor Hoffman and Phil Nevin to coordinate the Nevin-Hoffman Bowling Bash benefitting the family of the late Padres player Mike Darr.

Paoli was born and raised in Carson City. She graduated from Carson High in 1996, where she was Senior Class President and founded Project "C." Her parents Marilyn and Laury Lewis and her grandmother Kit Tatro as well as numerous aunts and uncles still live in Carson City and Reno. Paoli resides in La Jolla, Calif., and is actively involved and committed to the San Diego community.

The Golden Baseball League, Presented by Safeway, is an independent professional baseball league operating under a single-entity ownership model, with the league owning all the individual teams. The Golden Baseball League charter cities include: Chico, Calif.; Fullerton, Calif.; Long Beach, Calif.; Mesa, Ariz.; San Diego, Calif.; Surprise, Ariz., and Yuma, Ariz. The eighth charter city will be announced in early 2005. The season will consist of between 72 and 90 games per team and will begin in late May 2005 and end in early September 2005. Each team will have a 22 player roster. Players will earn an average of $1,000 per month. The Golden Baseball League office is headquartered in Pleasanton.

Players will be recruited from throughout the United States, including former major leaguers working their way back up through the minors, some of college baseball's finest players who missed being drafted, and recent cuts from major league baseball organizations' spring training roster trimming.

The Golden Baseball League plans on pursuing international player exchange agreements with other foreign leagues looking to develop their talent or acquire players.
