Recycle outdated phone books

Outdated phone books will be recycled as part of the annual Project ReDirectory campaign.

Delivery of the new SBC SMART Yellow Pages to residences, businesses and government offices is under way and scheduled for completion in early December.

Organizers are launching the annual Project ReDirectory recycling campaign to save natural resources and landfill space.

The effort takes advantage of Carson City's curbside recycling program and establishes convenient drop-off locations for outdated directories.

City residents and businesses may place old phone books on top of other recyclables on regular collection days.

Drop-off sites include:

• Scolari's Food and Drug Store on Highway 50 East

• Carson City Landfill Recycling Area on Flint Drive off Highway 50 East

• Carson City Corporate Yard, 3303 Butti Way

• Department of Motor Vehicles, 555 Wright Way

• State Printing Office, 301 S. Stewart Drive

• Nevada State Offices, 333 W. Nye Lane

• Capital Sanitation Maintenance Yard, 4880 East Highway 50 at Nye Lane

• Behind Northgate Movies 10 on Northgate Way

SBC directories are produced with paper containing recycled content. The old phone books collected will be used to make paper for new directories - a procedure called "closed-loop recycling."

On the cover is a group photo of the Carson City Fire Department. The salute honors firefighters who fought the Carson City wildfires in July.

A smaller, more portable version of the directory is also available.
