A memorial service for Walter Edwin Wheeler, 78, a Carson City resident for the past 24 years, will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Mr. Wheeler died Nov. 20, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Chicago, to Walter and Marian Costal Wheeler.

He married Mary Mordecai Dec. 23, 1945, in Huntington Park, Calif.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Diamond Bar, Calif.

Mr. Wheeler was an owner/operator in the restaurant business. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping and RVing. He was a Catholic.

He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II, guarding the West Coast of the United States.

He was preceded in death by his son Larry, in 1992 in California; two brothers and one sister.

Among his survivors are his wife and son Stephen, both of Carson City; daughter, Terry Brotemarkle of Dayton; grandsons Curtis O'Brien and Christopher Wheeler; and three great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
