A memorial service for Donald Gilbert Revelle, 72, a 13-year resident of Dayton, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Family in Carson City.

Mr. Revelle died Oct. 2, 2004, at home of cancer.

He was born Sept. 5, 1932, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, to Albert and Mabel Revell.

He married Nellie Rawson Oct. 12, 1963, in Cheektowaga, N.Y.

Before moving to Dayton, he lived in Hawthorne, Calif.

He became a naturalized U.S. citizen on Oct. 27, 1967.

Mr. Revelle retired from American Airlines in 1992 after 38 years.

Most recently, he was part-time custodian for St. Paul's Lutheran Family, where he was also an active member of the congregation.

He enjoyed drinking a good cup of coffee; listening to George Jones' music; coaching Little League; watching NASCAR races; rooting for the Anaheim Angels, San Jose Sharks and Buffalo Bills; and volunteering at the Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.

On Aug. 28, 2000, he was appointed by Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn to the State Council on Libraries and Literacy and served three years.

He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer from 1955 to 1957, followed by four years of reserve duty.

Among his survivors are his wife of nearly 41 years; daughter Karen Revelle and significant other Steve Jones of Lakewood, Calif.; daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl and Carl Ewing of Fernley and Debbie and James Bottieri of El Segundo, Calif.; grandchildren Courtney Woo of Fernley, Kyle Matsko of Dayton and Ryan Revelle of Fernley; and many nieces and nephews.
