I joined Nevada Fitness recently with the goal of trading in some of my unhealthy fat for glorious, toned muscles. And after writing this week's features on ice cream and sweets I feel an obligation to end on a fit note.
Isn't there some statistic out there saying 80 percent of Americans are overweight? Who surveyed people for that? And did they wear head protection while doing it?
I am feeling a little lighter, even though my scale at home only blinks a lonely E (error) repeatedly. So I don't really know for sure if I've lost any weight. And I did buy a whole bag full of candy at Everything Sweet today. But that was for a friend. Promise.
But if you're interested in working out, a new gym has opened in south Reno. Anytime Fitness, 18603 Wedge Parkway in Galena, is a 24-hour gym. Entrance is key activated and the gym has video security. Owner Darryl Carlson said their grand opening special is a $49 enrollment fee, monthly membership of $40, and one month free for an 18-month membership. The security activation fee is $30. Curves fitness and weight loss center, 272 E. Winnie Lane, is supporting breast cancer awareness month. The Carson City Curves is participating in a promotion designed to encourage early detection. Vicki Ramos, Curves manager, said the club will waive the initial service fee for women who join this week and show evidence of having a recent mammogram. For more information call 884-9111.
Joe Musser recently joined Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, a division of Wells Fargo Bank, and one of the nation's leading providers of residential mortgages, as a reverse mortgage consultant. Musser will work with senior homeowners seeking a reverse mortgage, a home financing program that allows homeowners to use the equity in their home to supplement their retirement income.
