Naked motorcycles: love 'em for what they are

Those who love, or hate, the ear-ripping motors in the morning can today bid adieu to the 40,000 motorcyclists rumbling out of Reno from Street Vibrations. Gone again, but not forgotten.

I've never owned a motorcycle, and I can't remember ever riding one, so Street Vibrations isn't an event I stand on my toes for. But I admire the passion in others. Where else can you see thousands of middle-aged Americans in full-leather ensembles, dripping with silver chains and splashed ever-so-specifically with the ol' red, white and blue?

But maybe you want to see more bikes, maybe you want to check out naked motorcycling.

Naked bikes are on display at Carson City Buell, 2749 N. Carson St. The Buell Lightning, Firebolt and CityX models combine the sound and performance of a big V-Twin engine with trendy designs, according to the company press release.

Buell's angle is selling motorcycles with almost no body work, meaning less plastic. After all, the plastic just covers up what they really are. The engine, exhaust and frame are left open for the crotch-rocket connoisseur to appreciate. For more information on these models call 882-7433 or visit www.buell.com.
