Margaret Adele Hussman McMeekin

A service for Margaret Adele Hussman McMeekin will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville.

Mrs. McMeekin died March 15, 2005. She was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Arcata, Calif. to Otto Louis and Mathilda Jepsen Hussman.

Her early years were spent in Northern California and Oregon. She attended grammar school on Gilman Avenue and later attended the University of Nevada, where she pledged as a Kappa Alpha Theta member.

In 1942, she married Donald William McMeekin. She spent the war years in Florida, New York and San Francisco, while her husband was a pilot in the U.S. Navy.

On returning to Gardnerville, they ran two gift shops, "The Marmac Gift Shop," in Gardnerville and in Marla Bay.

Don McMeekin died in a plane crash during active duty in the Aleutian Islands in 1953.

Margie raised her son, Jeff McMeekin, in Gardnerville then moved to San Francisco in 1960. She worked for the Park Merced architectural firm and at Rourke's gift shop in Burlingame.

She was active in PEO. She had a cabin at Marla Bay at Lake Tahoe, to which she returned often, with frequent visits to Carson Valley. She attended Unity churches in San Francisco and Lake Tahoe.

She lived in San Francisco for 40 years until her health failed. For her last five years, she lived near her son.

She is survived by her son, Jeff McMeekin of Palo Alto, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Caroline Judy; grandchildren Kieran and Kelly McMeekin; brother and sister-in-law William and Betty Hussman of Minden; nephew, Mark Hussman of Gardnerville; and niece, Mary Hussman of Seattle.
