Railroad enthusiasts expected to gather for ceremony

When the train comes around the bend, cameras should be ready.

The Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway will celebrate the groundbreaking of the Overman Pit project Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Gold Hill Depot.

"It's going to be a busy day up there," project coordinator Kevin Ray said Monday. "I expect a lot of people will be pulling in trying to get the shot."

Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt and other state officials will attend the event.

"It will be a brief ceremony," Ray said. "Jeff Fontaine, the director of the Nevada Department of Transportation, will be the master of ceremonies."

Fontaine will speak on the challenges and successes of the Overman Pit project, an NDOT spokesman said.

Hunt, Ray, Railroad Commission Chairman John Flanagan will speak at the event, which will be concluded with the customary shovel ceremony.
