The Carson High softball team couldn't solve Stephanie Shuman in a 4-0 loss to Reno High in a Sierra League game on Tuesday in Reno.

Shuman pitched a three-hit shutout to outduel Mandy Carvin, who gave the Senators an outstanding effort in allowing three earned runs on six hits in also throwing a complete game. "She threw a great game," said Carson coach Scott Vickrey about Carvin.

Candice Rutledge, Jessica Ashbaugh and Robyn Conn all singled for Carson's three hits. "She was on top of her game," said Vickrey about Shuman.

"She was hitting her spots. She just kept us off balance. I was a little disappointed the way we approached our at-bats."

Carson caught a bad break in the third inning when Christa Casci appeared to have nailed a runner trying to score from right field. But when the runner turned back to third, catcher Dacey Hassey's throw bounced off the runners shoulder, allowing her to score to give Reno a 1-0 lead. Reno added a run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.
