Despite finishing third in the 1,500-meter freestyle on Wednesday at the World Championship trials, Carson High graduate Lauren Costella has yet to be named to represent the United States at the World University Games.

Costella took third in the 1,500 free in 16 minutes, 44.2 seconds in the trials that were also used to select the U.S. team for this summer's World Championships.

Kate Ziegler, who won the 1,500 free, was ineligible to be selected for the World University Games because she qualified for the World Championships in the 800 free. Claire Hutchinson took second in the 1,500 free and she has yet to be named to World University Games team as well.

So far only one swimmer, Alyssa Kiel has been chosen to compete in the 1,500 free at the World University Games. Kiel didn't compete in the 1,500 free at the trials and took fifth in the 800 free. Costella placed 12th in the 800 free at the trials.

But Kiel is a versatile swimmer and will compete in four events at the World University Games. As of Thursday night, USA Swimming had selected 20 swimmers to compete in the World University Games. Up to 26 swimmers can be chosen for the games to be held Aug. 11-21 in Izmir, Turkey.
