Carson swimmers sweep past S. Tahoe

The Carson High boys and girls swim teams had no trouble in dispatching of South Tahoe on Friday at the Carson Aquatic Center.


Carson's girls won 194-85 and the boys won 185-72 without the diving scores included.


For the girls, Carson went 1-2 in the 200-yard medley relay with Hilary Schlager, Sarah Metcalf, Jamie Engan and Katie Wandel winning in two minutes, 2.86 seconds. Engan was also first in the 200 free (1:59.60) while Rebekah Niehoff was third.


The Senators went 1-2 in the 200 individual medley with Schlager winning in 2:24.02 and Lauren Metcalf taking second. Carson also went 1-2 in the 50 free with Wandell winning in 26.73 and Jessica Goddard taking second in 27.52.


The Senators went 1-2-3 in the 100 butterfly with Goddard first (1:05.64), Niehoff second and Danielle Judge third. Wandel took second in the 100 free in 59.42 while Sarah Metcalf was third.


Carson went 1-2-3-4 in the 500 free with Barbara Perkins winning (5:30.20), Lauren Metcalf taking second, Megan Hanke finishing third and Patty Capistrant placing fourth.


Goddard, Wandell, Niehoff and Schlager won the 200 free relay in 1:50.15. Carson went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke with Engan winning (1:05.19) and Perkins taking second.


Schlager won the 100 breaststroke (1:17.38) while Hannah Nystrom took third. Carson went 1-2 in the 400 free relay with Engan, Niehoff and the Metcalfs winning and Hanke, Judge, Melanie Gingell and Perkins taking second.


Carson's boys team of Sam Forbes, Matt Grunert, Chuck Hanselman and John Wandel won the 200 medley relay in 1:52.62. Carson also went 1-2-3 in the 200 free with Grunert winning in 1:55.91, Andrew Cardinal taking second and Wandel placing third.


Forbes won the 200 I.M. in 2:13.44 and Wandel won the 50 free in 23.85, leading a 1-2-3 finish. Kellen Dale took second and Hanselman was third.


Forbes and Sam Ballard went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly with Forbes winning in 59.34. Carson went 1-2 in the 100 free with Cardinal winning and Dale taking second.


The Senators also went 1-2 in the 500 free with Ian Murdock winning and Aaron Murakami taking second. Carson went 1-2 in the 200 free relay with Cardinal, Dale, Grunet and Hanselman winning in 1:42.06 and Garrett Clayton, Ahron Osheroff, Adam Updegrove and Scott Wandel taking second.


Scott Wandel led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke, winning in 1:00.57, with Updegrove taking second and Ballard placing third. Carson went 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke as well with Grunert winning in 1:08.71, Wandel taking second and Clayton finishing third.


Carson went 1-2 in the 400 free relay with Cardinal, John Wandel, Dale and Forbes winning in 3:41.29 and Ballard, Mark Malikowski, Murakami and Murdock taking second.
