A celebration of life for Jackie Charles Walters, 69, a Carson City resident for the past 27 years, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bently's Science Park, 1751 Orbit Way, Minden.
Mr. Walters died April 20, 2005, at home. He was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Ardmore, Okla., to John and Mattie Walters.
He married Pat in Alamagordo, N.M., in 1966.
Mr. Walters was a union electrician for 42 years. He coached the local Bobby Sox, youth basketball and the Carson Comets from 1978 to 1986.
He was an avid birder from the time he was 9 years old. He authored and published "Bird Stories and Sightings in Nevada," volumes 1 and 2. He taught classes on birding at Western Nevada Community College and led many field trips. He was in charge of the Christmas bird count for Carson City for many years and had his bird pictures published in national magazines. He was a member of the Audubon Society and American Birds.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 58.
Among his survivors are his wife; daughter Prim and Clyyne Cook of Sparks; daughter Shelley Holland of Carson City; son Mike of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law, Rip and Jackie of Phoenix; son Joe House of Carson City; grandchildren Jace Jackson and Jarek Patrick of Sparks, Aften Johnson of Reno and Josh Johnson of Carson City; and brother, Gene of Duncan, Okla.
