GALENA SWEEPS
Jacob Anderson pitched a no-hitter and Tony Thompson and Tom Jansen combined on a one-hitter as the Galena baseball team swept Damonte Ranch, winning 10-0 in the opener and 9-0 in the nightcap.
Galena improved to 12-3 in the High Desert League to keep pace with Spanish Springs in the race for first. Spanish Springs was 10-3 heading into a doubleheader with Fallon.
Anderson struck out seven and walked two in a game that was called after six innings due to the 10-run rule. Eric Maupin went 3-for-3, Andrew Ferguson had two hits, a double, and an RBI, Thompson had a hit and two RBI, Basim Azzam and Cameron Andriola each had hit and an RBI, Rory Forbes, Jordan Arnold, Justin Norvick and Phil Diaz all had a hit and Nate Greenside added an RBI.
In the nightcap, Thompson struck out 10, walked one and allowed one hit over six innings. Jansen pitched the seventh.
Diaz went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Ferguson went 2-for-4 with five RBI. Ferguson's inside-the-park grand slam home run in the fourth inning broke the game open. Also for Galena, Maupin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Norvick added a hit.
