100 meters: Fastest qualiers: Josh Heilman (Carson) 11.01; Kayla Sanchez (Carson) 12.22. Watch out for: Todd Mowry and Brandon Barker (Manogue) have run 11.0 and 11.1; Megan and Paige Olivetti (Wooster).


200: Fastest qualiers: Heilman (Carson) 22.60; Sanchez (Carson) 25.30. Note: Heilman's best time is 22.11 and Sanchez has a school record 25.08 - both at BYU on April 30. Watch out for: Mowry (Manogue) 22.4; Megan Olivetti 25.10.


400: Fastest qualiers: Mowry (Manogue) 50.87; Paige Olivetti (Wooster) 59.29. Watch out for: Jamelle Dalton (McQueen) 50.3 at Reno on April 20, along with improving Jeremy Gray (Carson) 51.22 and sophomore Joe Leon (Fallon) 51.55; Amanda Benson (Carson) 59.64, freshman Christy Works (Carson) 59.98 and Jill Dowty (Galena) 59.99.


800: Fastest qualiers: Pat Delaplain (McQueen) 2:00.32; sophomore Mel Lawrence (Reno) meet record 2:13.93. Watch out for: Robert Elvick (Reno), Mario Rangel (North Valleys) and Kevin Carlson (Douglas); Alyssa Abbott (Galena) 2:17.53. Note: Lawrence is the defending state champion in both the 800 and 1,600.


1,600: Fastest qualifiers: Daniel Geib (Galena) 4:29.09; Lawrence (Reno) 4:57.62. Note: Lawrence's 4:47.22 clocking for one mile at the Sacramento Meet of Champions on April 30 ranks No. 1 in the nation at that distance. Watch out for: Leif Anderson (Reno), Adrian Garcia (Hug).


3,200: Geib (Galena) has run 9:24.6 and Mike Van Antwerp (Galena) have run 9:40. Reno's Anderson ran 9:23 at the Sacramento Meet of Champions. Lawrence ran 10:35.02 to win at the Sacramento Meet of Champions; South Tahoe's Kate Lambdin ran 11:26 in the same race.


110/100 high hurdles: Fastest qualifiers: Corey Vermillion (South Tahoe) 15.19; Polly Smith (North Valleys) 14.76. Note: Vermillion's season best is 15.14. Watch out for: Matt Moore (Carson) 15.13; Dineen Little (Fallon), Andrea Keirstead (Carson).


300 hurdles: Fastest qualifiers: Moore (Carson) 39.02; Smith (North Valleys) and Sanchez (Carson) 44.10. Note: Sanchez ran a school record 43.70 at BYU. Watch out for: Megan Oivetti (Wooster) 44.91, the defending region and state champion in the event; improving Lindsay Ford (Carson) 48.84; Jake Hanson (Manogue) 39.86, Vermillion (South Tahoe) 39.75.


4x100: Fastest qualifiers: Carson boys 43.62; Galena girls 50.40.


4x200: Fastest qualifiers: Carson boys 1:28.94; Carson girls 1:45.43. Watch out for: Manogue boys (1:32.01), Hug 1:32.94); Galena girls (1:46.44), Reed (1:47.49).

Long jump: Top qualifiers: Tilor Smith (Carson) 21-5; Julia Mailander (Galena) 17-2. Watch out for: Felicia Ladson (Hug) 16-11 1/2, Sarah Burton (Fallon) 16-9 1/2; Max Lahoud (Galena) 20-8.


Triple jump: Top qualifiers: Brandon Hockenberry (Fallon) 43-6 3/4; Burton (Fallon) 35-1. Note: Ken Viser (Manogue) went 45-5 at Reno on April 22. Watch out for: Lydia Mailander (Galena) 35-0 1/4, Julia Mailander (Galena) 34-11 1/2.


Pole vault: Boys: After missing zone with a hand injury last year, Tony Fritsche (Galena) is the man to beat, having cleared a school record 14-6 3/4 three weeks ago. Watch out for: Ryan Green (Reno) 13-6, Zach Shannon (Galena), Daniel Timko (Galena). Girls: Jessica Lippert (Hug) has cleared 10-6 and Kayla Cass (McQueen) 10-0.


High jump: Boys: Defending state champion: Nick Shannon (Galena). Watch out for: Chad Williams (Reed) has cleared 6-5, Ryan Bertucci (Douglas) and Ben Wallek (Reno) 6-4. Note: Shannon went 6-9 indoors in January. Girls: Langley Iverson (5-2) is one of three Galena jumpers in the finals. Amanda Gentry (Reno) has gone 5-2.


Discus: Top qualifiers: Josh Mauga (Fallon) 168-11; Justine Goodman (Reed) 124-4. Watch out for: Evan McDaniel (Spanish Springs) threw 173-3 to win at the Silver State Games and Stephen Waicul (Carson) threw 166-0-1/2; Alex McAlman (Carson) threw 125-4 at BYU. Note: Waicul is the defending meet champion.


Shot put: Top qualifiers: Mauga (Fallon) 55-10 1/2; Davaisha Thomas (Spanish Springs) 36-11. Watch out for: Matt Bobman (South Tahoe), Joe Suder (Manogue), Christoph Weber (Reno), Eric Walther (Carson); McAlman (Carson) 36-5, Joelle Sebaaly (Reno) 36-2.
