Flash flood warning in effect until 7:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued an urban and small-stream flood advisory effective until 7:45 p.m. for the following counties in western Nevada including Storey, west central Lyon, south central Washoe and Douglas and Carson City.

At 5:30 p.m. the weather service Doppler radar indicated very heavy rain falling east of Reno and Carson City along the Virgina and Pine Nut mountain ranges. These storms are moving slowly south with rainfall rates are between 1/2 and 1 inch per hour.

Motorists should avoid driving across flooded roads and be alert to mud and rock slides near steep terrain.

Douglas and federal fire crews are hiking into a tree fire, likely started by lightning south of Clear Creek. The fire was reported at 6 p.m. east of Highway 50 on Old Clear Creek Road between Costco and the break in the jersey wall in the highway.

Crews are responding to the single-tree or two-tree fire burning in Douglas County. It is burning on a hill and is getting some rain. No helicopters are available as they are fighting other fires.

Also in Douglas County, a report has been made that lightning has struck a power pole on East Valley Road near the Indian Colony. A transformer was seen exploding.

At 6:05 p.m. crews were called to respond to a fire in the hills near Six Mile Canyon east of Virginia City, but nothing was found as of 6:50 p.m.

Flash flooding crossed the road at Mexican Dam and flooded at least one yard on Pinon Hills Drive in east Carson City near the Carson River. City public works crews cleared the roadway.

A report was also called in about a house was struck by lightning near Lloyd's Bridge, but nothing has been heard since the initial call.
