Sharkey's in downtown Gardnerville was evacuated and southbound Highway 395 at Gilman Avenue closed after a report of smoke in the casino 6:55 p.m. Friday night.
East Fork firefighters responded and quickly put out a fire in a lower level broom closet.
The southbound lanes of the highway were closed to give firefighters room for their engines.
Douglas County deputies diverted southbound traffic at High School Street and 395 and at Gilman Avenue and Douglas.
According to police scanner reports, the cause of the fire may be suspicious and fire investigators were called in.
