The Nevada Appeal and Sierra Nevada Media Group have two new directors overseeing advertising.

Gloria Thomas, 57, took over as regional advertising director for the group in mid-November. She advanced to this position after spending two months as the regional classified manager.

Thomas previously worked as classified manager for the Reno Gazette-Journal.

After 24 years in the newspaper profession, Thomas said she enjoys the challenges of keeping up with the market and staying ahead of the competition.

"Initially it was a job, it became a career and a passion," she said. "It was something I embraced and loved. It fit my expertise and I enjoy making a difference."

Thomas directs the advertising departments for all seven of the Sierra Nevada Media Group newspapers.

Thomas has worked for the Sacramento Bee, the Auburn Journal and the Contra Costa Times. At the Knight Ridder newspaper, she spent 12 years working up the ranks from retail manager to publisher.

She has been married to Frank for 31 years has three children and 12 grandchildren. Thomas enjoys golfing and reading.

Danny Campos, 45, took over as director of advertising for the Nevada Appeal in late November. He also oversees Reno sales and major national accounts for the Sierra Nevada Media Group. He advanced to this position after spending two years as regional advertising manager.

Campos started with Swift Newspapers, which owns Sierra Nevada Media Group, in 1996 as a sales rep with the Daily Independent. He transferred to the Nevada Appeal in 1998.

"One reason I've stayed in newspaper is that it's exciting," he said. "It keeps you alive."

Campos has spent his entire career in sales and marketing. He spent four years in the U.S. Army and owned a real-estate company in Ridgecrest, Calif.

Campos has five children and lives in Dayton. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his children.
