How to find the right tree for your garden

Learn how to select the right tree for that empty garden spot at a free Master Gardener workshop, "So You Want to Plant a Tree," presented by Rod Haulenbeek, Master Gardener at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Bartley Ranch in Reno. Haulenbeek will discuss what to consider when selecting your tree; different tree varieties for our area, their growing forms and conditions; and how to plant a tree to get it off to a good start.

The workshop is part of the "Gardening in Nevada" series of free classes presented by Master Gardener volunteers of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.

Club to discuss Pilates exercise craze

The Capital Women's Connection will hold a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. today at the Bamboo Garden Restaurant, 3735 S. Carson St.

Women are welcome to learn what all the excitement is about with the new exercise craze, Pilates.

Featured speaker is Linda Peterson from Eagle Fitness.

Guest speaker is Missy McCroskey from Pleasant Hill, Calif.

Blood donations sought beginning today

United Blood Services, Little Waldorf and the Blind Onion will hold UNR's Red Hot Hero Blood Drive through Friday.

Blood donations will be taken in UNR's Ansari Business Building second floor lounge from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. today, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.

All donors will be given a Red Hot ice cream treat from Cold Stone Creamery.

Donations will be taken from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Valentine's Singles Nite, 256 E. Winnie Lane or in Reno at 1125 Terminal Way, where there will be live radio remote, food prizes and fun.

Seminar planned to discuss city planning

NARFE Chapter 1329 will meet at 11:15 a.m. today at Grandma Hattie's, 2811 S. Carson St. for a luncheon meeting.

The business meeting is at 12:15 p.m. Vern Krahn, park planner, and Lee Plemel, principal planner, will speak on "The Importance of the Carson City Master Plan for Seniors."

All active and retired federal employees are invited.
