A memorial service for Roy Clinton Womack, 71, a Yerington resident for the past several years, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Mason Valley Assembly of God Church in Yerington. A light lunch will follow the service at the fellowship hall.
Mr. Womack died Feb. 10, 2005, at the South Lyon Medical Center. He was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Colville, Wash., to Joseph and Lovie Womack. At age 5, he contracted polio and compensated for its residual effects for the rest of his life.
He lived in Southern California and graduated from Chino High School where he excelled in FFA. He received a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry and soils sciences from Cal Poly College in Pomona, Calif.
Mr. Womack worked in soil conservation services in Las Vegas for a time before relocating to soil conservation in Yerington and Gardnerville. He spent many years in the construction trades in Gardnerville and surrounding areas before moving to Yerington several years ago where he worked at Right of Passage until his death. He was a member of the Mason Valley Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Anderson and Betty Thomas Jan. 11, in Yuma, Ariz.
Among his survivors are his wife, Marvie; stepson, Jeremiah Martin; daughters Kathleen Starks and Eileen O'Hara; son, Roy II; several grandchildren; brother, Don; sisters Joyce Phipps and Phyllis Womack-Perkins.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
