Reno lawyer disbarred: misconduct

Reno lawyer Mark L. Sturdivant has been disbarred as part of a deal with the State Bar and the Nevada Supreme Court.

Sturdivant voluntarily consented to disbarment after admitting he engaged in misconduct while under a five-year probation for a previous disciplinary violation.

There were two new disciplinary complaints pending against him. Details were not included in the Supreme Court order.

At the same time, Southern Nevada lawyer Gary Gowen was reprimanded for not being familiar with the high court's fast-track program despite representing criminal defendants in the program.

Gowen failed to file required documents on behalf of his client by the deadlines imposed by the fast-track program. Instead he belatedly asked for an extension of those deadlines. He also failed to appear for his State Bar hearing on the case.
