Mayor Marv Teixeira's first act of office Monday was to change out of the dark suit he wore for his 8:30 a.m. swearing-in and get into something more comfortable.

Teixeira, along with city supervisors Shelly Aldean and Richard Staub, both incumbents, were given the oath of office by Judge William Maddox at the Carson City Courthouse Monday morning.

"I'll put up a few things in the office, look through some e-mail, and get going," Teixeira said afterward.

Five city officials braved wet roads and a slippery courthouse parking lot for the ceremony. Teixeira returns as mayor after leaving in 1996 after two consecutive four-year terms.

Staub and Aldean were re-elected to the Board of Supervisors.

"There are some fiscal issues we have to tackle," Staub said. "Obviously, a new public safety complex."

Staub said he'll keep on working to keep businesses in Carson City and to bring others in, like the Wal-Mart complex at the north end of town.

"They have just broken ground," he noted.

Maddox also swore in Carson City School Board President Joanna Wilson and trustee James Lemaire.

Wilson, who returns to the board for a second term, has served as president for the past eight months.

Lemaire is new to the board and replaces Doug Ponn. Lemaire said he plans to visit all the schools within the district, and has already met with Carson High School Principal Fred Perdomo and other school board members.

He has attended several school board meetings to prepare himself for his new responsibilities.

"I'm keeping my mouth shut the first six months and listening like a good student," he said.

John McKenna, who has served on the board for 16 years, was re-elected with nearly 60 percent of votes. He was not present at the swearing in.
