A memorial service for Casey Opsteegh, 56, a Gardnerville resident for the past 11 years, will be at 2 p.m. today at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home.
Mr. Opsteegh died Jan. 1, 2005, at home. Her was born Nov. 16, 1948, in Dordrecht, Holland, to Karel Herman and Petronella Opsteegh. The family emigrated in 1953.
He graduated from North High School in Torrance, Calif.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Southern California.
He married Mary in 1974 in Santa Ana, Calif. Mr. Opsteegh worked for 10 years at Bently Nevada. For the prior 12 years, he worked at Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton, Calif. He enjoyed prospecting, fishing, hiking, camping and gardening. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 and was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his father on Jan. 31, 1997 and mother on Aug. 22, 1991, both in Riverside, Calif.
Among his survivors are his wife of 30 years; sons Daniel of Reno and David of Gardnerville; brothers Bart of Gardena, Calif., John of Huntsville, Ala., and Pete of Anaheim, Calif.; sister, Mary of Riverside; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
