Services for Edward Laurence Sakal, 62, of Hamilton, N.Y., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Carson City.

Mr. Sakal died Jan. 14, 2005, at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston. He was born Feb. 19, 1941, in Manhattan to Edward and Florence Campbell Sakal.

He married Virginia "Gina" Russell of Carson City in 1965.

Mr. Sakal graduated from Adelphi University in Long Island and did some graduate work at Long Beach State in California. He graduated with a master's and doctorate in education from New York's Syracuse University.

He worked as a teacher with the Hamilton, N.Y., school system for many years and as superintendent of schools in Belmont, N.Y., in Berkshire Hills in Stockbridge, Mass., and Newfield, N.Y. He and his wife ran McClure's Tavern Antiques in Bouckville for years. In the past few years he his son, Jeff, had an antiques business, Cider House Antiques, in Bouckville.

He was an avid gardener and builder. He also enjoyed restoring antiques and cabinetmaking.

Mr. Sakal was preceded in death by his parents and his father and mother-in-law Charles and Marjorie Russell.

Among his survivors are his wife of 40 years and son Jeffrey both of Hamilton; daughter and son-in-law Carolyn Sakal and Tom Repass; granddaughters Kaitlin and Sage all of Prescott, Ariz., son and daughter-in-law Robert Laurence and Marci, and granddaughters Abby and Emily all of Bolton, Mass.; sister Kathleen Patterson and husband of Barrington, R.I.; brothers- and sisters-in-law Clark and Jean Russell and Todd and Jeanne Russell all of Carson City, Craig and Michele Russell of Coppell, Texas, David and Linda Russell of Reno; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at the Dayton Cemetery.
