A memorial service for Laurel Alaine Barton, 59, a Yerington-area resident for 55 years, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Yerington Vineyard Fellowship Church with Pastors Tom Chism and Milton Carr officiating.
Mrs. Barton was born Dec. 28, 1945, in Salt Lake City to Dean and Alaine Thompson. She died Jan. 15, 2005, at her home in Yerington.
She graduated from Yerington High School and started working as an operator for Continental Telephone. She later became a deputy sheriff and worked as a dispatcher.
In 1968, she married LuVerne Barton and moved to Smith Valley. She opened Buckles and Bows day care and operated it for 20 years.
She later became a reading aid at Yerington Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother Harry Thompson.
Among her survivors are her mother and husband; daughter Heather Barton; daughter and son-in-law Trace'e and David Carr; grandchildren Grace'e Lanai and David Milton Dean Carr and brother Louis Thompson.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the scholarship fund for her grandchildren c/o Wells Fargo Bank P.O. Box 1451 Yerington, NV 89447.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
