Chad Seidenstricker broke through to score a season-high 16 points as the Galena High boys basketball team posted a 61-35 victory in a makeup High Desert League game at home against Spanish Springs on Monday night.
An 18-8 run through the third quarter helped the Grizzlies break open a close struggle.
"Basically, it was a flat game," Galena coach Tom Maurer said. "It's really tough coming off a big game like we had against Manogue Saturday night. They were busting hard, but they weren't doing the little things you need to do to win games when you're struggling - getting the offensive boards, containing defensively, getting to the line and then making your free throws.
Galena (7-2, 17-7) led 10-6 after one quarter and 26-18 at halftime.
"We did not play smart defense in the first half and we had 13 turnovers. The second half, we played a lot smarter defense,"Maurer said."
Derek Lorenzen also scored 14 points and Eric Maupin 10 for the Grizzlies, who played their third game in four days. They host Fallon tonight.
"I know how the NBA feels now," Maurer said with a chuckle. "Tomorrow night's going to be very scary because Fallon's playing well. We came out with a lucky win out there last time. You need to come out and play hard against a quality coach (Fallon's Corey Williams) and a blue collar team."

GALENA 52, SPANISH SPRINGS 20
Ten different players broke into the score column and Galena cruised past Spanish Springs. The Grizzlies (6-3 league, 15-7 overall) were never in trouble as they surged to a 32-8 halftime lead in a tune-up before hosting second-place Fallon (7-1, 15-4) today.
Spanish Springs was without starting point guard Sheila James on Monday and the Grizzlies tried to capitalize on the situation as they came out and pressed. Caitlin Crofts came up with three steals and Alyse Iverson two.
Meanwhile, Langley Iverson and Caitlin Anderson scored nine points each to lead Galena's balanced offense. Crofts and Colleen Mullins added seven points each.
