Delaware fire controlled

The lightning-caused Delaware fire that has burned 220 acres of southwest Storey County was contained by about 2 p.m. Saturday.

Full control was expected by later that night.

Sierra Front spokesman Mark Struble reported Saturday afternoon that crews were being released from the area. A couple engines would continue to patrol through the night watching for hot spots, he said.

The fire started at 6:18 p.m. Thursday and has cost about $160,000 to fight. Fire officials report there are no longer any active flames along the perimeter of the fire and crews are concentrating on mopping up hotspots within the fire line.

The threat to 50 houses and outbuildings in Silver City has been reduced to "extremely remote."

Crews from Storey County Fire, Nevada Division of Forestry, US Forest Service, California Division of Forestry, Lyon County Fire, Mason Valley Fire, Reno Fire, Carson City Fire and Sparks Fire responded to the blaze.

One minor knee injury was reported.

Officials caution drivers on state routes 341 and 342 to drive slow and watch for fire vehicles.

n The Airport fire, which burned 10 acres one mile due east of Indian Creek Reservoir northeast of Alpine County Airport in Alpine County, Calif., is also controlled.

That fire started at 1:52 pm Thursday.

n The Alpine fire, south of U.S. Highway 50 near Cold Springs in Churchill County, is also controlled.

The fire started at 3:03 p.m. Thursday and burned 10 acres. The cause of that fire is under investigation.
