Martin McKeefery of Milpitas, Calif., and Reno's Kim Robbins drove to victories in their respective Legends and Hornets main event races at Champion Speedway on Saturday night.

The 17-year-old McKeefery made his second Carson City appearance of the season a good one as he won an exciting 17-car Legends main event that saw five different leaders over 30 laps.

McKeefery, who blew a motor and settled for 11th in his June 4 race at Champion, took the lead with two laps to go after Bobby Hodges spun out and went to the pits.

Terry Madjeski of Incline Village was second at the finish, but right behind, 15-year-old Mackena Bell made a late charge to pass Derek Copeland on the last lap and then Todd Thompson at the wire to give her third-place.

Earlier, Jack Randall led the opening 10 laps before he spun out on the backstretch then went to the pits one lap later after he collided with Dallas Colodny and then hit the wall in front of the grandstands.

Gary Handley and his son, Chris Handley, took turns in the lead over the next six laps before Hodges bolted into the lead coming out of Turn 2 on the 16th lap.

McKeefery, who was coming off a win against a strong field the weekend before in Stockton, set a fast time of 14.55 in qualifying that is the best this season in the Legends division at Champion.

In the 25-lap Hornets main event, Robbins won her seventh main event of the season but first since June 25 as she outdistanced a field of 14 cars.

Robbins went high to pass Shawn Chaufty for the lead on the eighth lap and never looked back the rest of the way.

Andy McCool, last year's division champion, finished second ahead of Sandy Clark and Chaufty.

Notes: The Bad Girls Racing Team - Robbins and her daughter Stephanie Crawford - are looking to make a trip to England to race in a Formula Woman Eurocup event with Caterham Sevens starting on Aug. 24 at Rockingham Motor Speedway. Anyone wishing to assist in the team's trip may give donations on race nights at the U.S. Marine Corps booth located at Champion Speedway. For more information, e-mail guardiankdr3@msn.com
