It's time for the constantly growing Dayton area to take a step back in time for Dayton Valley Days, a street fair set for 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18 along Pike Street in Old Town Dayton.
The theme for the 17th annual event is the Sutro Tunnel and mining, according to organizers.
"This year we're promoting the family atmosphere and the historical nature of the area," said Patti Polish, an event organizer. "It's about the family, it's a street fair attitude, and it's about having fun."
The event features a parade down Main Street at 10 a.m. Saturday, games for adults and children throughout the weekend, a variety of food and crafts vendors, a street dance with live music and a barbecue.
In addition, the second annual Gold Creek Show and Shine car show will be held on Saturday.
Crafters, antique dealers and community service groups are needed to fill the many booths, which are 10-by-10 feet without electricity. They cost $20 for nonprofits, $50 for crafters, $65 for commercial and $70 for food and beverage vendors, who must have a state health permit.
Proceeds from Dayton Valley Days benefits the Lyon County Sheriff's Search and Rescue and help preserve Dayton's historic district.
"In the five years that Search and Rescue has done this, we have raised about $16,000," Polish said. "Part of that goes back to the community. It really all goes back because it goes to buy equipment for Search and Rescue.
Polish said funds that do not go to Search and Rescue go to purchasing or restoring historic buildings in Old Town Dayton, among other projects.
