Learn proper pond maintenance at free garden seminar

Is your pond a pleasure or a problem in your landscape? Has string algae taken over, or is green water ruining its aesthetics?

Learn how to fix annoying problems and care for all aspects of pond maintenance at a free seminar at Greenhouse Garden Center at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Topics include pH and plant growth, dealing with pond creatures from fish to mosquitoes, and the proper cleaning and feeding of your pond.

Roberts House tea season starts Sunday

Sunday is the first tea of the season at the Roberts House Museum. The tea begins at noon and costs $15. Along with the basic items presented at teas, there will be sandwiches and desserts.

The second tea is June 25 and is a breakfast tea. beginning at 10:30 and costing $12.

Teas include a tour of the museum and current exhibit. Currently on display is a multitude of teapots.

WNCC flea market offers Shabby & Chic

Western Nevada Community College is hosting its second Shabby & Chic flea market on from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

The flea market will be in the north parking lot of the Carson City campus and the Dini Student Center at 2201 W. College Parkway.

The event is sponsored by the WNCC Classified Council and the United Students Association, which will provide barbecued lunches.

Sellers can rent space for $20. For information or to reserve a space, call Kathryn Clark at 445-3260.

Music club meets for piano recital

The meeting of the Carson City Music Club will feature musicians performing on two pianos at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St., on June 13.

Compositions ranging from Bach to "Alexander's Ragtime Band" will be presented.

The public is invited. Program begins at 7 p.m. with refreshments after.

Members and children are free; nonmembers are asked to give a $3 donation.

Washoe Lake

Park ranger discusses old guns' histories at Washoe

The "Old Guns and Black Powder Smoke"event will be presented from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Washoe Lake State Park.

Gun collector and park ranger Jim Black will discuss old guns and their histories.

Meet at the Equestrian Group Area.

The program is free; however, there is a $4 per vehicle charge to enter the park. For information, call 687-4319.

Lyon County

Day camp offered to Lyon County kids

Central Lyon County Parks and Recreation is offering summer day camp for children 5 to 12 years old from Mound House, Dayton, Stagecoach, Silver Springs and Fernley.

The camp is June 13-Aug. 24. There will be field trips, expeditions, water games, arts, food crafts and more.

The cost is $55 for three days per week, or $70 for five days per week.

Some field trips will cost a little more.
