Body at lake identified as Reno student

YERINGTON - A body found in Lake Lahontan was tentatively identified as a University of Nevada, Reno student believed drowned over Memorial Weekend.

Capt. Jeff Page of the Lyon County Sheriff's Department said the results of an autopsy completed Tuesday were not available, but Tim Easley, 21, of Virginia City, was identified through photographs. His family was notified Monday night.

The body was found Monday in the northeast section of the Silver Springs portion of the lake near where friends say they saw Easley struggling to swim shortly after jumping into the water from a boat on May 28.

Page said there is no change in information concerning an unidentified man who may have drowned two days later.

He said credible witnesses reported seeing a man struggling to swim and yelling for help about 150 yards from shore on May 30. When the spot was reached by boat, there was no sign of the swimmer.

No one has reported anyone other than Easley missing.

It's been two years since anyone drowned at Lake Lahontan.

In June 2003, Virginia City volunteer firefighter Mike Ellis, 21, of Dayton, drowned while swimming in the reservoir 45 miles east of Carson City.
